Scheduling upload of data from disconnected VM Manager Tool

9.2.20 Available from 9.2.20.

If you deployed the disconnected VM Manager Tool, capacity data from VM managers is transferred to License Metric Tool by the disconnected scanner. To transfer the data, install the disconnected scanner on the computer on which the VM Manager Tool is installed. Then, create a package with capacity data, and place it in the disconnected scans directory that you added as a data source in License Metric Tool.

About this task

This procedure describes how to upload capacity data that is collected by the disconnected VM Manager Tool. If you manage the VM Manager Tool from the BigFix® console, see: Scheduling upload of data from VM managers through BigFix.

Procedure

  1. Install the disconnected scanner on the computer on which the VM Manager Tool is installed.
  2. Create a package with capacity data from VM managers.
    • If you want to run the software scan, and pack its results together with capacity data from VM managers, run the following script.
      • Linux <disconnected_scanner_directory>/run_sw_and_pack.sh
      • Windows <disconnected_scanner_directory>\run_sw_and_pack.bat
    • If you want to pack only the capacity data from VM managers, run the following script.
      • Linux <disconnected_scanner_directory>/automation/pack_results.sh
      • Windows <disconnected_scanner_directory>\automation\pack_results.bat
By default, package with the results is created in the following directory.
    • Linux <disconnected_scanner_directory>/output
    • Windows <disconnected_scanner_directory>\output
  3. Copy the package to the disconnected scans directory that you added as a data source in License Metric Tool.
Important: For performance reasons, it is recommended to prepare the package with capacity data and upload it to License Metric Tool daily. A delay longer than two days causes that performance-intensive aggregation of data needs to be done on the License Metric Tool server.

Results

The capacity data is uploaded to License Metric Tool during the import of data.
