Migrating between computers

You can migrate the BigFix® server, the License Metric Tool server, or both servers to different computers if needed. Before you start the migration, ensure that you thoroughly plan the process, secure sufficient resources, and backup all the required items to be able to perform disaster recovery.

Migrating the License Metric Tool server

You can migrate the License Metric Tool server between computers with the same operating system or computers with different operating systems.

In the first scenario, you need to back up the database of the old License Metric Tool server and restore it under the new License Metric Tool server. Software classification is preserved during the migration and only some advanced settings such as single sign-on settings, need to be manually recreated in the new License Metric Tool server. For more information, see: Migrating the License Metric Tool server between computers with the same operating systems.

In the second scenario, you connect a new License Metric Tool server to an existing BigFix server, and migrate configuration of the old License Metric Tool server to the new one. This process requires a considerable amount of work as software classification is not preserved and needs to be manually recreated in the new License Metric Tool. For more information, see: Migrating the License Metric Tool server between computers with different operating systems.

Migrating the BigFix server

To migrate the BigFix server to a different computer, install a new server on the desired computer, and add it as a datasource in License Metric Tool. Then, resubscribe endpoints from the old BigFix server to the new one. For more information, see: Migrating the BigFix server between computers.

Migrating computers

You can migrate computers between two BigFix data sources, from a BigFix data source to a disconnected data source, or the other way round. For more information, see: Migrating computers between data sources.
