In this tutorial, you learn how to create dedicated products to
report metric utilization separately when products are installed on a single computer but are used
by different tenants. Tenants can represent different business units or different customers in the
service provider environment.
About this task
- For more information about scenarios in which the tutorial is applicable, see the following links:
- The tutorial is based on an example of HR and IT departments.
Procedure
- Create a dedicated product to which you will assign instances of the product components
that are used by the HR department.
Important: Products that you create do not follow changes to bundling
rules that are delivered with new software catalogs. Thus, it is you responsibility to define and
manage bundling relations properly. Also, such products cannot be assigned to Cloud Paks.
- In the top navigation bar, hover over Reports, and click
Reports & Metrics.
- Hover over Edit, and click Add
Product.
- Specify product details.
- Specify the product name. For example,
IBM DB2 Enterprise Server Edition PVU Option for
HR
.
- Select the license metric that the product uses. For example, PVU.
- Specify the product release number in the following format:
<integer>.<integer>. For example, 10.5.
- To add the product, click OK.
- Create an analogical product to which you will assign component instances that are used
by the IT department. For example,
IBM DB2 Enterprise Server Edition PVU Option for
IT
.
- Assign component instances that are used by the HR department to their dedicated product:
IBM DB2 Enterprise Server Edition PVU Option for HR
.
- In the top navigation bar, hover over Reports, and click
Software Classification.
- Select the component instance that is used by the HR department. Hover over
Assign, and click Choose from Catalog.
- Clear List products for which the component is listed as a bundling
option.
- From the list, select the product that you created for the HR department:
IBM DB2
Enterprise Server Edition PVU Option for HR
.
- Specify whether you want the relation between the component and the product to be
charged or not charged. If you specify the relation as not charged, the component does not
contribute to the license metric utilization of the product to which it is assigned.
- Click Assign.
- Assign component instances that are used by the IT department to their dedicated product:
IBM DB2 Enterprise Server Edition PVU Option for IT
.
- Recalculate the data.
- In the top navigation bar, hover over Reports, and click
All Metrics.
- To refresh the data, click Recalculate.
Results
After recalculation finishes, you can see license metric utilization per dedicated
product.
