Classify discovered software and generate the snapshot

Classify the discovered software so that reports in License Metric Tool reflect your entitlements and properly show utilization of license metrics by particular products.
  1. Optional: Define your software entitlements. It allows to easily notice when components are assigned to products that you do not own. You can then focus only on such instances.
  2. Classify the discovered software.
    1. Assign components to products and license metrics. If you defined your entitlements, most of the assignments are already done.
    2. Assign products to Cloud Paks or FlexPoint bundles if you have any.
    3. Optional: Perform additional software classification. For example, exclude trial products from metric calculation.
  3. Optional: Confirm the assignment. It will help you track how much software still needs to be classified.
  4. Optional: Set thresholds of license metric utilization. You will then easily notice when the utilization is above your expectations.
  5. Create the snapshot of license metric utilization. Create it at least once per quarter and store it for two years for your reference and for the subcapacity auditing purposes.

Keep the environment up-to-date

A new version of License Metric Tool is released periodically, typically at the end of every calendar quarter. Upgrade the License Metric Tool server to the new version regularly to take full advantage of new features and application fixes as well as to be compliant with subcapacity licensing requirements. You can update the disconnected scanners when needed, not necessarily during every upgrade of the License Metric Tool server.
