Deployment scenarios
Before you proceed to advanced VM management, review the available scenarios for which you can use the additional instance of the VM Manager Tool. The main purpose is to transfer the capacity data from VM managers that are in separated networks, but you can also balance the network traffic, or filter your virtual machines based on their UUIDs.
Scenario 1: A VM manager is in a separated network to which the central VM Manager Tool cannot connect
When the VM Manager Tool that is installed on the BigFix® server cannot connect to a VM manager, use a distributed VM Manager Tool. You can install it on any computer on which the BigFix client is installed.

Scenario 2: You want to balance the network traffic coming from multiple VM Managers
You can balance the network traffic by dividing it between multiple instances of the distributed VM Manager Tool. Successful load balancing optimizes resource use, maximizes throughput, minimizes response time, and avoids overload.

Scenario 3: A VM manager is in a separated network in which the BigFix client cannot be installed
If you have a VM manager that is in a separated network in which the BigFix client cannot be installed due to technical, legal, business, or security reasons, use the disconnected VM Manager Tool. Install the disconnected VM Manager Tool on a computer on which the disconnected scanner is also installed. Capacity data from VM managers is collected by the disconnected VM Manager Tool and added to the package with scan result from the disconnected scanner. You then need to manually transfer this package to the disconnected data source from which it is imported to License Metric Tool.
