Backing up and restoring the VM Manager Tool

To avoid losing configuration of VM manager connections due to the corruption of the VM Manager Tool files, back up the VMMAN/config/ and VMMAN/keydb/ directories. If the VM Manager Tool files become corrupted, reinstall the VM Manager Tool, and restore the two directories from the backup location.

About this task

The following procedure applies to central, distributed, and disconnected VM Manager Tool. It is not applicable in case of the local VM Manager Tool.

Procedure

  1. To back up the VM Manager Tool, copy the config and keydb directories to a backup location. By default, the directories are in the following location.
    • For central and distributed VM Manager Tool
      • Linux/var/opt/BESClient/LMT/VMMAN
      • Windows C:\Program Files (x86)\BigFix Enterprise\BES Client\LMT\VMMAN
    • For disconnected VM Manager Tool
      • Linux VM Manager Tool install dir/VMMAN
      • Windows VM Manager Tool install dir\VMMAN
  2. To reinstall the VM Manager Tool, follow the procedure that is specific to your VM Manager Tool deployment type.
  3. Restore the VMMAN/config/ and VMMAN/keydb/ directories from the backup location.
