Z APM Connect components

Several Z APM Connect components work together to track performance of transactions as they flow through various z/OS subsystems.

Z APM Connect components can be categorized into two types: tracing components and processing components.

• Tracing components are installed on each service that is being monitored. Tracing components can be seen as agents, although the specific technology varies for each z/OS service that is being monitored. Z APM Connect tracing components include Z APM Connect CICS® TS Data Producer, Z APM Connect IMS Data Producer, Z APM Connect Interceptor for z/OS® Connect Enterprise Edition (z/OS Connect EE), Z APM Connect request monitoring exits for CICS® Transaction Gateway (CICS TG), and IBM MQ Monitoring Subsystem component.
• Processing components are responsible for collecting spans from the tracing components, forming a full end-to-end trace, and sending spans in the proper format to the Instana backend. Z APM Connect processing components include Z APM Connect Base, Z APM Connect Distributed Gateway, and Z Common Data Provider.
