Configuring the System Data Engine for collecting SMF records
You can either collect SMF records from in-memory resource, log stream, or SMF user exit in near real time. To collect SMF records, you must configure the System Data Engine.

Determine which method you want to use for collecting SMF records.
If you want to collect and stream SMF data no matter whether SMF is running in log stream recording mode or data set recording mode, you can install and use the SMF user exit to collect SMF data.
If you want to stream near real time SMF data to the Data Streamer, you must create the started task for the System Data Engine.
