Create data sources to receive weather alerts, and information
about historical and forecast named storms.
About this task
For user interface entry data sources, all the data source properties are preassigned.
For historical named storms, data is imported directly from the NOAA Weather
website. The following geometry types are used in the shape files:
- Point format data indicates location in relation to date and time, at hourly intervals.
- Line format data indicates a path.
For forecast named storms, data is imported directly from the NOAA National
Hurricane Center. The following geometry types are used in the shape files:
- Point format data indicates a predicted location.
- Line format data indicates a predicted path.
- Multi-polygon format data indicates a cone of uncertainty.
- Watch line format data indicates a storm warning and includes points on a line that are issued
in a Watch Status Report. The storm warning affects the area to the right of the line.
Procedure
- Create a data source that has a data source definition type of From a
third-party source with predefined property mapping.
- Choose one of the following acquisition methods:
- NWS public alerts
- Select this option to receive alerts from the National Weather Service for only the United States. For the connection
information, you will be prompted to select one or more states and, optionally, counties to receive
alerts for.
- The Weather Company© alerts
- Select this option to receive alerts from The Weather Company©
for multiple countries. For the connection information, you will be prompted to enter a subscription
key for The Weather Company©, and to select a country, and,
optionally, a state and city to receive alerts for.
- Named storm path
- Select this option to receive historical and forecast data about named storms.
You can use
the filter configuration tool to add named storm path data sources to a predefined Storm
Path pane in the filter. Then, in the Operations view, you can select individual named
storms on the filter's Storm Path pane.
- Connect to NOAA Weather
- If you are using Integrated Crime Analytics, select this option to receive weather data to apply
to crime risk assessment. For the connection information, you will be prompted to select the state,
weather station, time zone, and units of measure. The weather station ID and location are
automatically entered.
- Optional: Configure the settings on the Security,
Routing, and Appearance tabs according to your
requirements.
- Use the filter configuration tool to add your data source to a pane in the
filter so that you can view data items from the data source in the Operations view.
- Add weather alerts data sources to a predefined Weather Alerts pane
in the filter. Then, in the Operations view, you can select individual alerts on the filter's
Weather Alerts pane.
- Add named storm path data sources to a predefined Storm Path pane in
the filter. Then, in the Operations view, you can select individual named storms on the filter's
Storm Path pane.
