Adding a data item to the location map

You can create a data item that is associated with an area on a location map and added to a data source. The data item is added to the location map and to the list at the same time.

Before you begin

Your administrator must configure the data source to display data items on a location map, and ensure that the data source and the location map are assigned the correct access privileges. About this task

Select an area on the map and a data source to associate with your new data item. Then, enter details of the properties that are relevant to the data source and the item you want to add to the map.

Note: It is possible to add a data item that is not covered by your current filter selection. In that case, the item is added to the solution, but it is not displayed on the map or list. To display the item, change the filter selection to include it.

Procedure

  1. Click More Actions > New Item
  2. In the New Item window, select a data source. The data sources that are available for selection are those data sources that are configured to display on a location map.
  3. Drag the marker onto the map in the position you want to specify for your new data item. The Add New Item window opens.
  4. Complete the appropriate fields for the properties of the data item. Properties that are marked with an asterisk are required for the successful creation of the new item. Those properties that are not marked with an asterisk are optional.
    • The location field is completed automatically for the location map collection with the latitude and longitude of the position on the geospatial map.
    • The property that is configured as the area name field is completed automatically with the name of the area on the location map.
    • Depending on the data source, other properties of the new data item can be completed automatically.
  5. Click Save to save the item, or Close to stop adding the item.

Results

An icon that represents the data source of the new item is displayed in the area on the location map. You can view the details of the new item on a preview card from the location map, or from the list.
