Setting the automatic refresh interval

You can set the automatic refresh interval in IBM® Intelligent Operations Center to control how often to refresh the user interface with information that is arriving into the system. This includes information that is displayed on the map, in the list, or on the location map. This setting has an impact on the overall performance of the system, especially when there are multiple users that are active concurrently, so activate the automatic refresh feature only when necessary.

Before you begin

If you are using a browser as an active operations console to see the latest activity as it arrives, select a time range in the Filter window; for example, the previous week. Then, use the following procedure to set the automatic refresh interval to a required value that is based on the data that is selected. The single client operations view can be displayed on a large monitor in a control room.

About this task

Set the automatic refresh interval by using your knowledge of the information sources that are displayed. For example, if weather events arrive once per hour, and you set the automatic refresh interval to 5 minutes, the automatic refresh returns new data only 1 out of every 12 refreshes. This is a waste of system resources for the remaining 11 refreshes per hour.

Turn the automatic refresh feature off for most system interactions, where you are doing basic planning and analysis by filtering different information that is on the display.

Note: If you add, update, or delete an item on the base map, a refresh occurs immediately, regardless of your settings. The refresh updates the automatic refresh interval timer so that duplicate refreshes do not occur.

Procedure

Set the automatic refresh interval in the Operations view.

  1. In the Auto refresh field, either click the arrows to select a value, or enter a value. You can specify a value from 0 to 60 inclusive. If you specify a value of 0, the automatic refresh feature is turned off.
  2. To specify the interval type, select a value from the list. You can select an interval type of seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, or months.

Results

The results that are displayed in the browser after a refresh vary depending on the filter criteria that you select and on your configuration. New and updated items are displayed only if they match the current filter criteria. Deleted items are removed from the map.
