Calculating a KPI based on aggregate values

Use the KPI definition tool to configure the calculation of a KPI's value by applying an aggregation function to a specific data source property.

About this task

For data items that are received from the selected data source, the selected aggregate function is applied to the values of the specified property in the data items. The calculation is performed for data items that are received over the specified periods.

Procedure

  1. In the KPI definition tool, click the KPI and then click the Calculation tab.
  2. For Calculation type, select Aggregate.
  3. Select an aggregate function, a data source, and a property in that data source.
  4. Optional: Under Time Filter Settings, you can filter the data items that are used in the calculation of KPI values according to time. From Period Type, select the type of period over which the KPI is calculated and then configure the remaining time settings:
    • If you select Repeating, the KPI value is calculated at repeating intervals according to the period settings that you configure.
    • If you select Rolling, a rolling KPI value is calculated over the most recently occurring number of periods that you configure. For example, if a period is one day, and the KPI is calculated over three periods, the KPI is calculated each day based on the previous three days.
    • If you select Fixed, the KPI is calculated over the fixed period that you define.
  5. Optional: Under Data Filters, you can add filters to filter the data items that are used in the calculation of KPI values according to specific property values in the data source.
  6. Optional: Under Area Filters, you can add filters to filter the data items that are used in the calculation of KPI values according to boundary areas.
  7. Save the KPI calculation settings.
