Creating a weighted hotspot analysis

Create a weighted hotspot analysis to apply greater or lesser weight to selected attributes.

Before you begin

You must create one or more saved queries before you can create a weighted hotspot analysis. To configure the geometry format of the data source that is associated with the hotspot as point, select Minimal Properties > Time Zone & Other > Geometry format > Point. Also, for the data source property that is associated with the hotspot, select Key & Full Properties > Key Property > Yes and select Key & Full Properties > Filter by > Enumerated values.

About this task

A weighted hotspot analysis is a special type of analysis that applies only to point geometry data. You can use a weighted analysis to give greater weight to certain data or combinations of data. You can select any available data source and any attribute of that data source as the criteria. You can apply weights to attributes so that one attribute with a particular value can be deemed more important than other attributes. The resulting map hotspot shows locations that match the weighted criteria. For example, you could analyze incidents of graffiti, neighbor complaints, police calls, and utility records to identify properties that might be vacant, giving greater weight to utility records than to graffiti.

Procedure

To create a weighted hotspot analysis:

  1. To configure the values on the scoring page, click the relevant data item on the expanded data source tab.
  2. Select the option to create a weighted hotspot analysis, and specify the required values for the General, When, Where, and What pages. If your administrator configures time and date filtering to be optional in a data source's minimal properties, you can choose not to apply the time and date filter settings that are specified on the When page. A clock icon is displayed on the What page next to data sources for which optional time and date filtering is configured. Click the clock icon to either enable or disable time and date filtering.
  3. On the Analytic Details page, specify parameters for the selected analysis type.
    1. Select a cluster type.
        • Select Cluster by distance to compare and collect facts that match the following requirements:
          • any of the specified categories
          • within the specified time period
          • within the specified distance
        • Select Cluster by distance and time to compare and collect facts that match the following requirements:
          • in different categories
          • within the specified time period
          • within the specified distance between facts
          • within the specified time interval between facts
    2. Specify the minimum number of data items required to form a cluster and the maximum distance between data items.
    3. If you chose Cluster by distance and time, specify the maximum time interval .
    4. Choose whether to display the analysis results as a circle or a polygon.
  4. On the Scoring page select the data to analyze and apply scores. You can specify the type of evaluation to perform on the selected data, select or specify a value range, and assign a score to each data attribute. You can assign comparisons and scores to attributes, then select which attributes to use.
  5. On the Grouping page select how values for each selected dimension will be grouped.
  6. On the Appearance page, select the order for lists, time interval to display on the chart, and the color to display for each value or range.
  7. Optional: Specify who to notify when analysis results are ready, and whether to run the analysis on a schedule.
  8. Click Save and Run.
