Data source basic settings

Choose settings on the Basics tab to provide the basic input and selections that are appropriate for your data source.

Depending on the options that you select, only the relevant fields are displayed.

Table 1. Description of the fields on the Basics tab
Field Description
Data source label A name for your data source. This name is the default label that is attached to the data source throughout the user interface.
Data source unique text identifier A text string that is unique to this data source. The value cannot contain spaces, and the maximum length is 115 characters. The value is used to generate part of the database table name, and therefore you cannot reuse it for any other data source.
Data source ID The data source ID is a unique, automatically generated ID that is used to reference the data source in the database.
Description A description of your data source. Completion of this field is optional.
Data for analysis Indicates whether the data is to be used in an analysis process. Refer to the documentation that is specific to your solution for more detail.
Note: This option applies to IBM® Intelligent City Planning and Operations.
Boundary area Select Yes for this option if you want to use the data source to create boundary areas. Create boundaries by using any data source that provides data in either polygon or multipolygon format:
  • Shape file data sources
  • CSV file data sources that provide data in WKT format
  • Database data sources that provide data in either WKT or DB2SE.ST_GEOMETRY format
A boundary area type data source is not polled for updated data after the data source is created.

You can also define boundary areas in an SQL file and then use the SQL file to populate a source database table. For more information, see the Defining boundary areas by using SQL topic.

Generate boundary items filter pane This option applies only to boundary data sources. Select Yes to automatically generate a filter pane that displays individual boundary items from the data source. Users can select one or more individual boundary items and display the items on the map.
Asset or resource data Indicates whether the data is to be used in an asset or resource-related process. Refer to the documentation that is specific to your solution for more detail.
Note: This option applies to IBM Intelligent City Planning and Operations.
Data for correlation Indicates whether data from the data source is available for correlation. If you select Yes, you can configure data items to be routed to a correlation topic for correlation with other data items. For more information about data correlation, see the related link.
Note: Only point format data items are included in correlation results.
Report model Indicates whether you want the data source to be included in the Cognos® Framework report model.
Server-side rendering Select Yes if you want data items that match the filter criteria to be returned as a single image by the server-side rendering service. The server-side rendering service evaluates and applies all the configured style rules to the returned image. Rendering data items as a single image on the server is faster. You can also view more data items at a time on the map, in comparison to when the map renders all the data items individually.

If you configure the data source to use server-side rendering, data items are displayed only on the map, and not in either the list, charts, or on the timeline.

Trusted data source If you select No to indicate that the data is not from a trusted source, data items are imported from the source, the same as for trusted sources. However, the data items are processed to escape scripting characters before they are displayed in the user interface.
Polling interval The polling interval of your data source which ensures that you receive updates. This setting indicates how often the system polls the database for new data. Set a value of 0 to take initial details and never poll for updates.

The polling interval value is not used for CAP data sources.

The polling interval value is not used for user interface entry data sources.

Polling interval unit The unit that the polling interval is measured in.
Enable comments Enable IBM Intelligent Operations Center for Citizen Collaboration app users to add comments to data items that are in the data source. If enabled, users can also add comments through the data item's preview card in the IBM Intelligent Operations Center operations view. A comments tab is automatically included in the full properties window, and a link to the comments tab is automatically included on the preview card. You can use the component customization tool to override the default configuration of the full properties window.
Enable voting Enable IBM Intelligent Operations Center for Citizen Collaboration app users to vote for data items that are in the data source.
Enable image upload Enable IBM Intelligent Operations Center for Citizen Collaboration app users to upload and associate an image to a data item in the data source. If enabled, users can also upload, view, and manage images through a data item's preview card in the IBM Intelligent Operations Center operations view. An images tab is automatically included in the full properties window, and an action for managing images is automatically included in the preview card's actions menu. You can use the component customization tool to override the default configuration of the full properties window and the actions menu.
