Creating the semantic model

The semantic model provides a framework to create device-based applications. The semantic model supports the integration of operational data and related enterprise applications. Device Management Enablement users can extend the semantic model to define custom asset types, asset instances,measurement types, property types, and relationship types and relationships between assets.

Defining the asset type
The custom asset type is defined as an OWL ontology. You can extend RSM_WorkEquipment to define a custom asset type. You can also define the asset type in the inherent hierarchy.

When you define a new asset instance, the model instance metadata is captured in the RDF file.

Use the connect relationship to define relationships between assets.

Use the contain relationship to define relationships between assets.
Defining the primary measurements
An asset can provide multiple measurements and you can specify a single measurement as the primary measurement as provided in the example.

Multiple thresholds can be defined for the measurement as displayed in the example in this topic.
Defining the measurement timeout
Measurement timeout is used to define a timeout value when there is no measurement reading. The value is set in milliseconds.
Defining the derived value relationship
With derived values, the value of a measurement is calculated from another measurement.
