Disabling carrier service for shipping group

You can either temporarily or permanently disable a carrier service for a shipping group on a specific node.

You can use this option to reserve carrier services with limited capacity for those orders that need a faster shipping service. When a carrier service is disabled for a shipping group on a node, the service is not considered for that node if the ship date falls within the effective date range. In such a case, the disabled carrier service is ignored by the Calculate item delivery date and Calculate shipment assignments APIs.

When you calculate estimated delivery dates, you can disable carrier service indefinitely or for specified dates for one shipping group without affecting its use in other shipping groups. If you do not specify a start date for when the carrier service is disabled, the action is effective immediately. If you do not specify an end date for when the disabled carrier service is enabled, the action is effective indefinitely. Additionally, you can enter one or more date ranges for which the carrier service is disabled for the shipping group.

Important: If you enter multiple date ranges, the dates in the ranges cannot overlap.

Example

To free up the shipping capacity for other shipping groups, a fulfillment manager might want to temporarily disable a carrier service during the peak season or with limited carrier service capacity.

Consider the following Shipping Groups configured for usual business operations:
  • STANDARD: Fulfilled by Carrier A - Ground and Carrier B - Standard
  • EXPRESS: Fulfilled by Carrier A - 2DayAir and Carrier B - NextDayAir
  • PREMIUM: Fulfilled by Carrier A - Expedited and Carrier B - Prime
  • GOLD: Fulfilled only by Carrier B - Prime

If a shopper selects STANDARD, then both Carrier A - Ground and Carrier B - Standard are considered for evaluation.

The carrier notifies the ship node 001 that capacity for Carrier B - Prime, during their peak season between 1 July and 5 July is limited. Based on this notification, the fulfillment manager can redirect all Carrier B - Prime to only the GOLD shipping group. Therefore, they can disable the Carrier B - Prime carrier service for the PREMIUM shipping group.
  • STANDARD: Fulfilled by Carrier A - Ground and Carrier B - Standard
  • EXPRESS: Fulfilled by Carrier A - 2DayAir and Carrier B - NextDayAir
  • PREMIUM: Fulfilled by Carrier A - Expedited and Carrier B - Prime (disabled for July 1 - 5 only at ship node 001)
  • GOLD: Fulfilled only by Carrier B - Prime
If a shopper selects the PREMIUM shipping group during the period 1 July to 5 July, only Carrier A - Expedited is considered for evaluation for ship node 001.
