Items with variations
Typically, inventory is stocked at the SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) level, and the availability picture for the SKUs can be determined at a ship node or network level. However, in some scenarios, an aggregate view of the availability picture is necessary for a parent item with variation.
An item with variation is a grouping of items that have similar characteristics. An item with variation can be viewed as a parent item that has one or more child SKUs. For example, a t-shirt is an item that has several SKUs, for different color or size variations. You can view the availability information for such items across the child SKUs.
The Item Relationship Configuration REST APIs support the relationship between items and related SKUs. After you configure the relationship between an item with variation and SKU, call the Availability REST APIs to determine the availability picture for these items at a ship node or network level. For more information about the Item Relationship Configuration APIs, see the REST API documentation.
- You can call Supply, Demand, Reservations, and Safety Stock REST APIs only for SKUs and not for items with variations.
- The bundle and item with variation of parent-child items are two different item types. A bundle cannot be an item with variation.
