1.305.6 2 October 2025 The AutoTrace mutating webhook now enhances image‑pull‑credential handling by showing clear warnings instead of failing when credentials are missing; secrets might be sourced from internal registries.
1.305.0 23 September 2025 Removed the BatchJob that previously deleted the old secretinstana-autotrace-webhook-certs. The secret is now replaced withinstana-autotrace-webhook-serving-tls andinstana-autotrace-webhook-ca. The BatchJob required pulling a new image, which caused issues in air-gapped environments. Instead, the manual cleanup steps are documented in Cleaning the unused secret.
1.304.6 16 September 2025 By default, the Instana AutoTrace webhook only mutates pods. The higher-level resources can still be mutated by setting a flag--set autotrace.enableHigherLevelResourceMutation=true.

Libinstana_init package

Instana AutoTrace webhook uses the libinstana_init package to monitor a technology. The package recognizes the technology and automatically puts all the necessary environment variables and configurations for tracing that technology. For more information, see Instana AutoTrace webhook.

To get the latest version of the libinstana_init package, you need to update the Instana AutoTrace webhook. For more information about how to update the webhook, see Updating Instana AutoTrace webhook.

Fixes:

libinstana_init:

  • Detects Ingress NGINX and watcher execution
  • Delays Ingress NGINX startup until the watcher sets the symlinks to the tracer binary files

watcher_nginx:

  • Directly sets the symlinks if the Ingress NGINX controller is running
  • Prints the version in the watcher logs
  • Displays the same version as libinstana_init

1.5.0 28 February 2024

Features:

  • The libinstana_init package now supports the NGINX Bitnami images.

Fixes:

  • The issues with the backup function are fixed now. The libinstana_init package now correctly runs a backup of the original NGINX configuration before it instruments NGINX. The original configuration is saved in the /tmp/nginx-<random>.conf.bak file.
  • The regex that is used to parse the forward expressions of the NGINX location is fixed now. The location paths, such as location /app/subdir/api, are now correctly instrumented by the package.
