Installing the Instana agent on Red Hat OpenShift

Prerequisites

Before you install the agent, see Checking the prerequisites to check for supported versions of Red Hat OpenShift and installation methods.

Installing the agent

You can install the Instana agent in a Red Hat OpenShift cluster by using the following methods:

• Instana agent operator
• Helm chart
• Static YAML file (not suggested)

For Red Hat OpenShift, the preferred method to install the Instana agent is by using the operator.

What to do next

After you install the agent, you can do the following actions to the agent:

1. Check the status of pods. For more information, see Checking the pod status of the agent.

   After you install the Instana agent, the agent starts automatically at system boot. You can turn off this behavior by setting the environment variable INSTANA_AGENT_AUTOSTART=false when you install the agent.

2. After you install the agent, configure Instana agent sensors to monitor specific technologies. For the list of supported sensors, see Agent sensors.

3. You can do installation-related activities on the agent such as to customize the agent configuration or update the agent. For more information, see Administering the agent.

4. You can upgrade the Instana agent when new versions are available. For more information, see Updating the agent.

5. You can uninstall the agent if it's not needed. For more information, see Uninstalling the agent.
