Build 1.0.0 (279)
Build 1.0.0 (279) of Self-Hosted Custom Edition (Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform) is released on 20 August 2024.
Starting with Build 1.0.0 (279), the following updates are applicable:
- The Instana Operator name is changed to Instana Enterprise operator.
- New Custom Edition versioning scheme is implemented. The new scheme no longer matches the Instana backend versions.
- Instana backend updates and Custom Edition releases are made independent. A new Custom Edition release is not always required when the Instana backend is updated.
Features and capabilities
The following features and capabilities are added.
Instana kubectl plug-in
The Instana kubectl plug-in has the following updates:
- The package name is changed to
instana-kubectl-plugin
. - The download location is changed to
https://artifact-public.instana.io/artifactory/rel-generic-instana-virtual/infrastructure/kubectl/<package-name>
. - The package with the new name and new download location is fully compatible with the previous plug-in versions, and does not require modifications.
- New commands are added for managing the Instana backend versions that are supported for an Instana Enterprise operator version. For more information about the new commands, see Instana kubectl plug-in.
Supported Instana backend versions
Instana Enterprise operator can be installed with Instana backend version 279 and higher.
When a new Instana backend build is available, you can update your installed Instana backend by using the new plug-in commands. The commands show a list of the Instana backend versions that you can upgrade to. For more information, see Upgrade Procedure.
When an Instana backend version is no longer compatible with your current Instana Enterprise operator, a new version of Custom Edition is released.
Instana backend version releases
The Instana Enterprise operator no longer needs a release version change for every Instana backend update. Now, up to 4 Instana backend version updates can be applied to a single version of the Instana Enterprise operator.
However, for Instana backend version updates, you must track the upgrade notes.
