Support strategy for tracer libraries

Instana supports a variety of runtimes and languages for tracing. These languages can run both standard and third-party libraries. Based on market and customer demand, Instana supports tracing for these standard and third-party libraries. Once Instana supports a libary, it continues to support any new versions that are available in those libraries.

However, supporting new versions is complex and requires time from Instana engineers. To provide transparency, Instana is revealing its strategy for these libraries. You can see the service level agreements (SLAs) for the timeline of the new versions in the respective libraries table in each tracer page.

Instana classifies all libraries into the following categories based on the support policy:

0-day support

For a library with a 0-day SLA, Instana provides support on the day of the library release. In most of the cases, only runtimes or languages have 0-day support. Instana provides 0-day support by testing the public preview releases from the community. If the public preview or early releases for a technology is unavailable for the general public, Instana cannot provide 0-day support for it.

45-days support

For a library with a 45-day SLA, Instana provides support for the version within 45 days of its release. Popular third-party libraries fall under this category.

On-demand support

For a library with an on-demand SLA, Instana provides support for new versions after it supports libraries with 0-day and 45-day SLAs or based on customer demand. If you identify a delay in supporting a version, you can open a feature request. For more information, see feature request.
