Cumulative release notes builds 274 and 275
Features
The following features are added.
AWS Auto Scaling
Instana now automatically discovers and monitors AWS Auto Scaling groups. For more information, see Monitoring AWS Auto Scaling.
Kafka header migration
The last phase (Phase 2) of the Kafka header migration starts in June 2024! Starting this month, .NET Tracer transitions to support only string Kafka headers. For more information, see Kafka Header Migration Plan.
Monitoring GPU (private preview)
Instana provides the observability for your GPU. For more information, see Monitoring GPU (private preview).
Monitoring IBM InfoSphere CDC
A new sensor that monitors IBM InfoSphere CDC is now available. It collects metrics from the Access server. For more information, see Monitoring IBM InfoSphere CDC.
Monitoring LLMs
Instana provides observability of your LLM applications. For more information, see Monitoring LLMs.
SAP ABAP sensor
The SAP ABAP sensor is now generally available. The following features are included:
- Enhanced event handling of login errors, which include user account lock or login failures.
- Added events signaling for user authorization issues that are related to the execution of SAP function modules.
- Added tables, such as Transactional Remote Function Call (tRFC) Outbound and Queued Remote Function Call (qRFC) Inbound and Outbound, on the Transactional Statistics tab.
- Updated the system log statistics table to include detailed information that is related to severity 1 and 2.
For more information, see Monitoring SAP with the ABAP sensor.
Public preview features
The following public preview features are added.
Enable Subresource Integrity (SRI)
The Enable Subresource Integrity (SRI) feature for JavaScript agent is now available as a public preview feature under website monitoring. You can now change configurations under the website configuration tab to enable or disable SRI. For more information, see Enable Subresource Integrity.
Improvements
The following functionalities are improved.
Agent SSL errors
During the rollout of a new release, the Instana host agent might have SSL issues when it connects to the Instana backend. Even though the host agent manages to connect to the Instana backend, these errors might incur some connection delay. This is a known issue.
IBM PowerHMC sensor: vNIC adapter details
You can view the IBM PowerHMC vNIC adapter details of each managed system on the Platforms > IBM PowerHMC > Systems > Network page in the Instana UI. For more information about vNIC adapter details, see vNIC details.
Monitoring Cassandra
Instana now supports Cassandra 4.1.4 and 4.1.5.
SAP ABAP sensor
- Enhanced the following statistics tables to display the username and client information: User, Work Process, and Database.
- Implemented new metrics in the User Statistics for Background, Update, Spool, and Enqueue steps.
- Introduced three additional metrics to monitor work processes effectively: Stopped, Shutdown, and Reserved.
- Enabled the filtering of work processes based on the status categories, such as Dialog Process, Update, Background, Enqueue Process, BTC (Batch job), Spool, and Update2.
- Optimized the code by reducing calls to the
SWNC_GET_WORKLOAD_SNAPSHOT
remote function module to improve the performance of fetching metrics. - Adjusted the frequency of
TH_SERVER_LIST
remote function module to run at 90-second intervals instead of every 10 seconds. - Added the following metrics to monitor the CPU utilization per user: Response Time, Queue Time, and RollWait Time.
Azure MySQL flexible server
Since Azure retires Azure MariaDB and replaces it with Azure MySQL flexible server, the Azure MySQL flexible server sensor now includes the following metrics:
- total_connections
- Queries
- Slow_queries
- Com_create_db
- Com_create_table
- Com_drop_db
- Com_drop_table
- Com_delete
- Com_select
- Com_update
- Com_insert
- Com_alter_table
For more information, see Azure MySQL Flexible Server.
IBM MQ sensor
The following information about IBM MQ sensor is added to the Instana documentation:
- Descriptions about MQ authorities for a nonprivileged user. For more information, see Configuring IBM MQ authority.
- Connection and authority problems that are encountered frequently and their solutions. For more information, see Troubleshooting IBM MQ sensor.
Kong sensor
You can now manually enable the Kong sensor for monitoring. For more information, see Configuring Kong.
SAP HANA sensor
- Instana now collects the following SAP HANA metrics: CPU Time, Memory Usage, Service Details, Network I/O, Table Size, Aggregated Cache, and Backup Progress. Host Name and Active Status are also displayed.
- The following metrics are renamed: Connected Users and Applications (formerly Currently Connected Users and Applications) and Total CPU Utilization (formerly SAP HANA System CPU Usage).
- Resident memory details are now available in Host Memory Usage (formerly available in SAP HANA System Memory Usage).
For more information, see Monitoring SAP HANA.
Updated sections for alerting permissions in Group access configuration
In the group access configuration, Smart Alert permissions are displayed under the category of the related Instana section.
Fixes
The following issues are fixed.
Analyze Infrastructure: Entities without a label
Entities that do not have a label are not displayed on the Analyze Infrastructure dashboard. Entities that do not have enough information to create a label are labeled Unknown.
Fixed order in the API query window
The default order in the API query window, which was incorrect and did not support grouped results, is now fixed. Additionally, the order now updates correctly when modified in the table.
IBM MQ sensor
- Previously, multiple unexpected connections from the IBM MQ sensor to Queue Manager were generated if Queue Manager was recovered when Instana was running. This issue is now fixed, and no more connections are generated.
- Previously, the IBM MQ sensor was connected to Queue Manager even after the sensor was deactivated for some specific customer environment. This issue is now fixed, and the IBM MQ sensor does not connect to Queue Manager after the IBM MQ sensor is deactivated.
ActiveMQ
The Storage Usage
in the KPI section is now renamed to Store Usage
.
Managed system energy temperature payload
The temperature payloads of the managed system energy are now converted to metrics. Therefore, you can now set alerts for Inlet, CPU, and Baseboard temperature metrics. For more information about Managed system energy monitoring, see Managed system energy monitoring.
Unbounded analytics
A call.type
filter is now included on the Analytics page when you open the page from the Upstream/Downstream service list on the Application page. This filter prevents inconsistencies between the Upstream/Downstream services list and the services that are listed on the Analytics page.
