Cumulative release notes builds 278 and 279

These release notes are for builds 278 and 279.

Features

The following features are added.

Spring Boot datasources

Instana now automatically discovers and monitors Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) and HikariCP data sources. For more information, see Monitoring Spring Boot.

Collect Jenkins version by using public API

Instana now collects Jenkins versions by using the Public API if Instana monitors Jenkins.

Enable automatic page detection in website monitoring (public preview)

Website monitoring now supports enabling automatic page detection by using website automatic instrumentation, which sets the document title as the page name by default. For more information, see automatic page detection and website automatic instrumentation.

OpenTelemetry: Infrastructure correlation

Instana now supports linking of infrastructure for OpenTelemetry tracing with IBM middleware, including IBM MQ, IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE), and IBM DataPower. For more information, see Infrastructure correlation for OpenTelemetry tracing with IBM middleware.

SAP HANA sensor

Built-in events are added to the SAP HANA sensor to detect the following events:

  • High CPU and memory usage
  • Locks
  • Backup failures
  • Blocked threads and sessions
  • Queuing connections
  • Pending requests
  • Inactive services

For more information, see SAP HANA.

Support for HAProxy

Instana now supports monitoring of HAProxy 2.8.x and 3.0.x. For more information, see Monitoring HAProxy.

Support for Jenkins 2.452

Instana now supports monitoring of Jenkins 2.452. For more information, see Monitoring Jenkins.

Support for Oracle database 23ai (23.4.0)

Oracle database 23ai (23.4.0) is supported by both the Oracle Multitenant database sensor and the OracleDB sensor. For more information, see Monitoring Oracle database and Monitoring Oracle Multitenant database.

Improvements

The following improvements are provided.

Display Elasticsearch node ID

The Elasticsearch node dashboard now displays the node ID. You can also filter Elasticsearch nodes by node ID.

Oracle Multitenant database sensor

The Oracle Multitenant database sensor is now generally available. For more information, see Monitoring Oracle Multitenant database.

Enhance Java profiles support

Java profiles are also supported on the PowerLinux and Power AIX based operating systems.

IBM InfoSphere CDC monitoring

The IBM InfoSphere CDC subscription dashboard now displays the following metrics: Latency, Network latency, Rows, Communications, MBCS conversion, and Thread CPU.

Kong sensor

You can now manually enable the Kong sensor for local and remote monitoring. You can also enable or disable the metrics and adjust the size of the entries that are displayed. For more information, see Configuring Kong.

SAP ABAP sensor

The SAP ABAP sensor dashboard includes the following enhancements:

  • RFC Source is now added to uniquely identify the RFC connections to SAP from the Instana sensor.
  • Fiori tab now displays a list of the most frequent services and entities of the OData service.
  • Spool Error metrics and events are now added to indicate that the Spool Error is enabled.

TIBCO ActiveSpaces monitoring

Instana now supports monitoring TIBCO ActiveSpaces proxies. For more information, see Monitoring TIBCO ActiveSpaces.

Workflows for Office 365 or Microsoft Teams alert channel

The Office 365 or Microsoft Teams alert channel now supports Workflows. The alert channel URL must be updated to the workflow URL. For more information, see Office 365 / Microsoft Teams alert channel.

Fixes

Emoji rendering in Slack alert channel notifications

In the Slack alert messages, the rendering of emoji is now disabled. For example, you can now see  instead of an actual 😉 emoji. This update prevents interference with custom payloads that use the custom:<key>: <value> format. If you use an emoji name (for example, pod) for your key, then the key name that is rendered as an emoji in Slack messages is difficult to read.

Duplicated calls in long-term storage

When you examine a trace in detail, calls of that trace might get copied to long-term storage and are retained for more than the seven-day full retention period. This copying process creates several duplicate calls of the actual call. These duplicate calls might cause incorrect figures in the Sub calls KPI and the Service Endpoint List section of trace details. These duplicate calls might also distort the results for other analysis of traces and calls when you use selective filters and view data that is older than the seven-day full retention period.

The issue is now fixed. However, you might still encounter this issue in rare edge cases. In addition, KPI indicators and Service Endpoint List of the trace details view are now enhanced to deduplicate calls. Therefore, KPI indicators and Service Endpoint List display correct results for data that is duplicated.

Metric catalog layout

The layout of the catalogs within the following categories was broken:

  • Application
  • Websites
  • Mobile

Now, the outer pane width matches the size of the metrics.

Website page name not detected with eum.min.js

Previously, the minified JavaScript eum.min.js 1.7.1 did not detect page name when you called the autoPageDetection API with the titleAsPageName parameter. Now, the issue is fixed in JavaScript agent 1.7.2.

Minor releases

The releases include the following updates.

279-1

  • Loading times of all views are improved.

279-2

  • The instana-console .rpm (Red Hat) and .deb (Debian) packages are now GPG signed.
