Features

EC2 Sensor - IMDSv2 support

The AWS EC2 Sensor now support IMDSv2 (Instance Metadata Service Version 2).

Last bucket aggregation on infrastructure custom dashboards

Custom dashboards for infrastructure are now capable of displaying the most recent value for a metric. This feature is available for the following widgets: Big Number, Pie Chart, Top List, and Table. For more information, see Last bucket aggregation.

Beta: Alibaba Cloud monitoring

Alibaba Cloud monitoring (beta) is now open to all customers. To get started, see the following documents:

Table widget for Infrastructure and Platforms (beta)

You can create Table widgets in custom dashboards for Infrastructure and Platforms. For more information, see Table widget.

Automation policies

An automation policy associates a trigger to an action in your action catalog. A trigger can be either an Instana event definition or a Smart Alert. When an event meets the trigger conditions, the policy appears in the Associated Policies section of the Incident or Issue details page. From the Associated Policies section, you can run the action that is configured in the policy. Automation policies are a replacement for action associations and all current action associations are converted to automation policies. To work with your automation policies, select Automation from the sidebar then select Policies. For more information, see Automation policies.

Azure Key Vault

Instana now supports monitoring Azure Key Vault. For more information, see Monitoring Azure Key Vault.

Azure Key Vault Managed HSM

Instana now supports monitoring Azure Key Vault Managed HSM. For more information, see Monitoring Azure Key Vault Managed HSM.

Cassandra sensor: DataStax Enterprise (DSE) support

The Cassandra sensor now supports monitoring of DSE 6.8 and later. For more information, see Monitoring Cassandra.

Db2 LUW sensor

Db2 pureScale metrics

The Db2 dashboard now shows pureScale Lock Memory Table and pureScale SCA Memory Table. The tables include metrics such as current and target memory sizes of different member nodes. For more information, see PureScale Lock Memory Table and PureScale SCA Memory Table.

Infrastructure tag catalog API

A new infrastructure endpoint is available that enables retrieval of the tag catalog. For more information, see OpenAPI.

Prometheus metrics for pods on the Kubernetes dashboard

On the Kubernetes dashboard in the Instana UI, the Prometheus Metrics tab is added for pods that contain Prometheus metrics.

Running Turbonomic actions (beta)

The Instana Incident details page now provides a mechanism for initiating the execution of recommended actions from IBM Turbonomic. For more information, see Integrating Turbonomic with Instana (beta).

SAP ABAP monitoring

  • Local monitoring feature is enabled for the ABAP sensor. For more information, see SAP ABAP (Beta).

  • Inbound and outbound IDocs, Gateway front-end logs, and Fiori metrics monitoring are added.

  • Built-in events are added to detect lock contentions, generated dumps, and inbound and outbound IDoc errors.

Service Level Objectives (SLO) dashboard (beta)

Instana has a new Service Level Objectives (SLO) dashboard where you can view all of your SLOs with high-level status and drill down into details. This experience provides detailed charts that highlight indicator status, error budget consumption, and visualization of SLOs across various time windows. It is available from the Service Levels top-level menu. For more information, see Service level objectives (SLO).

TIBCO ActiveSpaces monitoring

Instana now supports monitoring Tibco ActiveSpaces (AS). You can now monitor Tibco AS nodes and explore the dashboard in the Instana UI. For more information, see Monitoring TIBCO ActiveSpaces (beta).

Time data in call details

The call details panel on the Trace Detail page now includes information such as latency, self-time, waiting time, network time, and call start time.

Improvements

Agent catalog

The Agent catalog is redesigned to increase the clarity on the available means to deploy the Instana agent. It is also aimed to ensure comprehensive and clear instructions, and the facilitation of easier deployments.

Analyze infrastructure

When you share the URL of the Analytics entity types page with other users, the search term is retained.

Expose HTTP address on Elasticsearch node dashboard

The Elasticsearch node dashboard now displays the node's HTTP address.

Improved access to call details

The Web REST API in Application Analyze now supports the downloading of call details through a new endpoint. The Download call details link in the Instana UI now generates URLs, which you can share with other users.

Synthetic monitoring performance

The responsiveness of the Synthetic test on the Results tab in the Instana UI and the corresponding API is improved.

SAP HANA sensor

Instana now automatically discovers and monitors SAP HANA Connections, Garbage Collection Statistics, and Expensive Statements. For more information, see Monitoring SAP HANA.

Synthetic monitoring

The MongoDB third-party module is added to the JavaScript playback engine in Synthetic PoP 1.1.6 and later.

Website monitoring

The backend trace correlation of XMLHttpRequests is enhanced for browser delays.

Fixes

Synthetic monitoring

  • Previously, the Default group did not have view permissions for Synthetic tests. This issue is now fixed.
  • Redis in Synthetic PoP is upgraded to 7.2.4 to fix CVE issues in Synthetic PoP 1.1.5 and later.
  • The request module in the JavaScript playback engine is now deprecated and replaced by the @cypress/request module in Synthetic PoP 1.1.5 and later. The @cypress/request module supports the $http API.

Filtering by non-existent AP name

Previously when you filtered a non-existent AP name using either does not equal or does not contain, operators would return no results. Now, all calls are returned.

Grouped calls view

Previously, in Analytics, changing the sorting of nested calls in a group caused the group to collapse. This issue is now fixed.

MongoDB sensor

The Replication lag metric was missing from MongoDB 5.0 and later. The issue is fixed now.

Service mapping

Previously, an incorrect source service was displayed in the Instana UI when the parent call included a shared exit span. Now, the source service is mapped correctly.

Synthetic monitoring

  • The Synthetic Tests page fails to load when there are more than 4000 synthetic tests due to a timeout in the backend. This issue is now fixed.
  • Previously, the JavaScript playback engine stopped working after the Instana AutoTrace webhook was installed in the Kubernetes cluster that contained Synthetic PoP. Now, the Instana AutoTrace webhook instrumenting is disabled by default on all containers of Synthetic PoP 1.1.6 and later, which fixed the issue in Synthetic PoP 1.1.6 and later. To fix the issue for the existing Synthetic PoP, you must uninstall the existing Synthetic PoP and reinstall Synthetic PoP 1.1.6 or later.

Minor releases

269-1

  • Update of the UBI base image
  • Fixed a feature flag issue that can lead to missing metrics.

269-2

  • Fixed broken Elasticsearch index configuration
