Host Agent

By default, the Instana Host agent listens on all private IP addresses using port 42699. This can be overridden via configuration or environment variables.

However, the fact that the agent is reachable on port 42699 is not sufficient to ensure that all applications can be traced. For language-specific port requirements, consult the Network requirements documentation.

Language Sensors

For supported languages where Instana offers language specific sensors, the sensors will, by default, search the localhost and default gateway on port 42699 for a running instance of the Instana Host Agent where applicable.
