Installing and configuring self-hosted Instana backend (on-premises)

Install and configure the Instana backend on premises as a self-hosted alternative to using the Instana as a service (SaaS) solution. You can install a self-hosted Instana backend in a Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift on-premises environment or a Docker on-premises environment.

Tip: If you want to use the Instana as a service (SaaS) solution, you don't need to install the self-hosted Instana backend (on-premises). For an Instana SaaS solution, you need only install Instana agents to monitor your systems.

This section guides you through installing and configuring the self-hosted Instana backend (the Instana server and data stores). You can install a self-hosted Instana backend while connected to the internet or offline (for an air-gapped installation). After installing the self-hosted Instana backend, you install the Instana agents that are used to collect data from monitored systems.

To install the Instana backend in a self-hosted environment, choose one of the following options. When you click an option, you are taken to the section that guides you through the installation and configuration for your chosen platform.
