Support strategy for IDOT

Instana Distribution of OpenTelemetry Collector (IDOT) supports various components for working with OpenTelemetry Data. When IDOT supports a component, it continues to support any new version that is available for this module.

Supporting a new version of a component on IDOT is a complex process and it requires the availability of IDOT developers. To provide transparency in this process, IDOT has its strategy for these components. All components that are being used by IDOT are linked in a chart on the IDOT GitHub.

IDOT classifies all components into the following categories based on the support policy:

0-day support

For a component with a 0-day SLA, IDOT supports only the version that is available on the day of the software release. IDOT provides 0-day support by testing the public preview releases from the community. If the public preview or early releases for a software is unavailable to the general public, IDOT cannot provide 0-day support.

45-days support

For software with a 45-day SLA, IDOT provides support for the software within 45 days of its release. Most of the software that IDOT supports falls into this category.

On-demand support

For software with an on-demand SLA, IDOT provides support for new versions after it supports components with 0-day and 45-day SLAs or based on customer demand. If you identify some delay in supporting a version, you can open a feature request. For more information, see feature request.
