Build 289
Build 289 is released on 4 February 2025.
Minimum version to update from directly: Build 285.
Cumulative release notes for builds 288 and 289
These release notes are for builds 288 and 289.
Features
The following features are added.
Generic volume mounts for Kubernetes Agent deployment
You can now mount generic volumes into the agent pod by using Instana agent operator and Helm chart. These volume mounts can be configured from ConfigMaps, secrets, or other types of volumes in Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift. By using this approach, you can provide the agent with external data such as self-signed certificates, custom keys, and trustStores, or apply additional custom files during the agent deployment. For example, see Helm chart documentation.
Kubernetes Horizontal Pod Autoscaler monitoring
Instana now enables the monitoring of Kubernetes Horizontal Pod Autoscaler by default. However, you can opt out of this feature if it is not required. For more information about enabling and disabling optional features, see Enabling optional features (Kubernetes or OpenShift Container Platform).
Improvements
Support for etcd 3.5
Instana now supports etcd v3.5. For more information, see Monitoring etcd.
Support for Apache Kafka 3.9
Instana now supports Apache Kafka 3.9. For more information, see Monitoring Kafka.
Support for PostgreSQL 16.6 and 17.2
The PostgreSQL sensor now supports PostgreSQL versions 16.6 and 17.2. For more information, see Monitoring PostgreSQL.
Support for RabbitMQ 4.0
Instana now supports the RabbitMQ version 4.0. For more information, see Monitoring RabbitMQ.
Support for CockroachDB 24.3.2
Instana now supports monitoring CockroachDB 24.3.2. For more information, see Monitoring CockroachDB.
Support for Nutanix datacenters
Instana now supports monitoring Nutanix datacenters. For more information, see Monitoring Nutanix.
Cassandra 4.x
Cassandra calls can now be linked to Cassandra 4.x cluster infrastructure entities.
RBAC application access scope to access application APIs
To use an API token for accessing application APIs, you now need RBAC access scope of applications.
Showing previously invisible entity types
On the Analyze Infrastructure page, Instana now shows entity types that were previously not visible:
- Component Metrics Entity
- EC2 Tags Collector
- Entity Statistics
- Kubernetes Endpoint
- Processing Statistics
- Region Entity
- Tenant Unit Entity
New metrics for LLM monitoring
LLM monitoring of Instana now supports the following metrics that the LLM model and applications aggregate:
- Total Input Tokens
- Total Output Tokens
- Total Input Cost
- Total Output Cost
Fixes
Custom service mapping
Previously, the instana.service.name
, jvm.args
, oracledb.sid
, and service.default_name
tags were unavailable for custom service mapping. This issue is now resolved.
Charting of custom call metrics with negative values
Previously, the mean aggregation chart for custom call metrics with negative values displayed invalid data. This issue is now fixed.
Latency-based sorting of trace list in unbounded analytics
The trace list in unbounded analytics now correctly sorts by latency. Previously, when you attempted to sort the list based on latency, the trace list in unbounded analytics appeared in an unordered sequence. This issue is now fixed.
Minor releases
The releases include the following updates.
289-1
- Fixed a migration issue for the LDAP IdP configuration, which led to an invalid login.
