Working from the command line

When you cannot use the IBM® Packaging Utility user interface, you can use Packaging Utility command line (pucl) to copy and delete packages. You can use pucl commands with either the installed version of Packaging Utility or the stand-alone version of Packaging Utility.

Installing Packaging Utility

You can install Packaging Utility by using the installation executable file or you can use IBM Installation Manager as an installation tool.
Install Packaging Utility by using one of these methods:
  • Run the installation command in the Packaging Utility installation files. For more information, see Installing Packaging Utility in wizard mode.
  • Run Installation Manager silent installation commands. See Using Installation Manager or the installer to install packages in the Installation Manager IBM Knowledge Center.
  • Run the Installation Manager command line (imcl) installation command. In a command-line utility, open the Installation Manager tools directory and run the command:
    imcl install com.ibm.cic.packagingUtility
    	-repositories source_repository
    	-installationDirectory installation_directory
    	[ -sharedResourcesDirectory shared_directory ]
    	[ -preferences preference_key=value ]
    	[ -secureStorageFile storage_file -masterPasswordFile master_password_file | -keyring keyring_file [ -password password ] ]
    	[ -acceptLicense ]
Note: The -keyring and -password options that are used to store credentials to a key ring file are deprecated. Use the -secureStorageFile and -masterPasswordFile options to store credentials to a credential file. For more information, see Migrate from key ring files to storage files.
  • Create a response file. For more information, see Response files.

If you do not plan to install Packaging Utility, you can use the stand-alone version of Packaging Utility to copy and manage packages with pucl commands. For more information about acquiring and starting the stand-alone version of Packaging Utility, see Running the stand-alone version of Packaging Utility for information.
