Altering IMS databases

You can alter an IMS database by changing the description of a database in the IMS catalog. You do this by issuing the ALTER DATABASE statement.

Altering a full-function database
You can issue the ALTER DATABASE statement to change the description of a full function database in the IMS catalog. This works with both HALDB and non-HALDB databases.
Altering a Fast Path database
You can alter an IMS Fast Path DEDB database by changing the description of a database in the IMS catalog. You do this by issuing the ALTER DATABASE statement.
Changing the data set access method
You can change the data set access method from VSAM to OSAM or vice versa. IMS does not have the ability to issue a change of a database access type directly from DDL. If a different database access type is needed, create a new database using the CREATE DATABASE statement and specify the desired access type.
