Migrating from an earlier IMS 15 release
Because all releases of IMS within the version IMS 15 use a single set of SMP/E function modification identifiers (FMIDs), you do not need to perform a full installation of IMS to migrate from an earlier release of IMS 15 to IMS 15.2. Instead, you apply APAR/PTFs to migrate to IMS 15.2 if you are already using IMS 15.
IMS 15.6 requires that IMS Managed ACB is enabled to start IMS for TM/DB and DBCTL users. The IMS catalog must be set up for Managed ACBs and the DFSDFxxx PROCLIB member used by the online IMS must include a catalog section that has CATALOG=Y and ACBMGMT=CATALOG specified.
Users of DCCTL are not required to implement IMS Managed ACBs and can continue to use ACBLIBs for their DCCTL regions. DCCTL users that share ACBLIBs with DB/TM systems can continue to use the ACBLIBs or they can share the IMS catalog directory created by the DB/TM systems. This is described here: DCCTL enhancement to support IMS management of ACBs.
You can migrate to IMS 15.2 from an earlier release of IMS 15 by applying the PTFs for APAR PH16682 and APAR PH23298 to update the IMS installed level that is displayed in select output. After you apply the PTFs for APAR PH16682 and APAR PH23298, the installed level (that is, the version, release, modification level of the IMS system) is updated from the earlier release of IMS 15 to IMS 15.2.
Procedure
The general steps for migrating to IMS 15.2 from an earlier release of IMS 15 are as follows:
