Defining an MDM source data endpoint

Before you can create a subscription, you must define your MDM source data endpoint and target endpoint. This procedure describes setting up a new source. The MDM data source will be your InfoSphere® MDM deployment instance.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the MDM Publisher user interface.
  2. Select the Endpoints tab.
  3. Click New endpoint and select the system type for your source endpoint:
    • MDM AE for Advanced Edition deployments (physical MDM)
    • MDM SE for Standard Edition deployments (virtual MDM)
  4. Provide the following additional information depending on your system type:
    • For MDM AE source endpoints:
      • Provide the connection details that correspond to your MDM database instance:
        • Database host name
        • Database port
        • Database user name
        • Database password
        • Database schema
        • Database name
        • Database type
      • Provide the connection details that correspond to your InfoSphere MDM ongoing synchronization server:
        • Ongoing server host name
        • Ongoing server port
        • Ongoing server user name
        • Ongoing server password
    • For MDM SE source endpoints:
      • Provide the connection details that correspond to your MDM operational server:
        • MDM server host
        • MDM server port
        • MDM server user name
        • MDM server password
        • MDM server version
      • Provide the connection details that correspond to your MDM database:
        • Database host name
        • Database port
        • Database user name
        • Database password
        • Database schema
        • Database name
        • Database type
      • Provide the connection details that correspond to your InfoSphere MDM ongoing synchronization server:
        • Ongoing server host name
        • Ongoing server port
        • Ongoing server user
        • Ongoing server password
Note: If these properties are not specified, you will not be able to use this endpoint for ongoing synchronization.
  5. Click Test Connection to validate the connection information that you've provided. When you see the message Test connection successful!, click Next.
Note: If you see the message Test connection failed!, check the information that you provided to ensure that it is correct. If so, confirm that the instances are currently running.
  6. For MDM AE source endpoints:
    1. Review the Source Model screen.
This screen shows a graphical representation of this source's MDM data model that will be used for mapping entities. In the Graph schema, entity types are represented as either a vertex, an edge, or a property of a vertex or edge.
    2. Click on a vertex or edge in the graph to see more details in the Property panel.
Note: If the InfoSphere MDM Advanced Edition source being added as a source endpoint has any custom additions deployed to its data model, then the Configure Additions button is enabled on this screen.
    3. Configure sub-labels for entities that use custom code table definitions or reference data. Entities that include sub-labels have an edit pencil edit icon icon.
InfoSphere MDM Advanced Edition supports code table data and reference data, both of which are represented in the graph model as sub-labels. Commonly in an InfoSphere MDM implementation, your organization will have custom code table definitions.
Important: If you have custom code table definitions, you must update the sub-labels to reflect your customizations before exporting the data using MDM Publisher.
      To configure sub-labels:
      1. Click on an entity that includes sub-labels. Identify entities with sub-labels by looking for the edit pencil edit icon icon.
      2. Switch to the Sub-Labels tab.
      3. Add, update, or remove the default sub-labels to match your custom code table definitions or reference data.
    4. To configure the way your custom entity additions are included in the MDM Publisher mapping model, click Configure Additions. For information about configuring entity additions, see Configuring how custom entity additions are published.
    5. Click on each vertex, edge, and property to review its associated properties.
    6. Click Next.
  7. Provide a name and description for this new source endpoint.
  8. Click Create.
