Creating a bulk load or ongoing data subscription

After defining your MDM data source, target, and data filter, you can create a new IBM® MDM Publisher subscription. Subscriptions can be bulk data loads, ongoing synchronizations, or a combination of the two.

About this task

Subscriptions can be one of the following types:
  1. Bulk - A one-time publish action that exports and loads all of the data types that match the defined data filter from your source into your target.
  2. Ongoing - A continuous subscription that synchronizes live MDM data types that match the defined data filter from the source into your target.
  3. Bulk and ongoing - A combination of the other two options. First a bulk job is run, and then once it completes, an ongoing job begins.
Restriction: Not all types of InfoSphere® MDM transaction updates are supported by the MDM Publisher ongoing subscription capability. For more information, see InfoSphere MDM Advanced Edition transactions supported by MDM Publisher.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the MDM Publisher user interface.
  2. Select the Subscriptions tab, then chose New Subscription.
  3. Under Endpoints, select the source and target endpoints from the provided drop down lists, then click Next.
Tip: If you haven't created your source and target endpoints yet, click New, then follow the procedures described in Defining an MDM source data endpoint and Defining a target data endpoint.
  4. Under Data filters, select the data filter you would like to use for this subscription, then click Next.
Tip: If you haven't created a data filter yet, click New, then follow the procedure described in Creating a data filter.
  5. Provide a name and description for your new subscription.
  6. Select your subscription type:
    • Bulk - A one-time, bulk data load from the source to the target.
    • Ongoing - An ongoing, live data synchronization from the source and the target.
    • Bulk and Ongoing - A combination, where first a bulk load occurs and then an ongoing synchronization begins.
  7. Optional: If you are creating a subscription for virtual MDM data that includes member record data, select Retain source system information if you want to retain the following details as record identifiers in the published data:
    • the original source system name
    • the IDs of the member records in the original source system

If you do not select Retain source system information, the source endpoint name will be used as the record source (record_source) and the memrecno value of the member record will be used as the record ID (record_id).

  8. Optional: To activate the subscription immediately, set the Initial state to be Active.
If you do not choose Active, the subscription will be created, but will not be run until it is started later from the Subscriptions tab.
  9. When you are satisfied with your subscription settings, click Create.
