Creating an ODBC data source for Netezza

Use this procedure to create a Netezza® ODBC data source.

About this task

For example, on Microsoft Windows you can use odbcad32.exe in C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (which is a 32-bit version ODBC). Make sure to run it as administrator.

These instructions assume a Microsoft Windows environment. For instructions about Linux® and UNIX setup, see the related information topic.

Procedure

  1. From Microsoft Windows, choose Start > Control panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC).
  2. On the System DSN tab, click Add to add a data source.
  3. On the Create New Data Source dialog, in the odbcad32.exe window, select the System DSN tab. a
  4. On the System DSN tab, click Add to create the system data source.
  5. Choose the driver that corresponds to Netezza.
    For example, NetezzaSQL.
  6. On the ODBC Drive Setup dialog, provide the following information and then click Test Connection to check connection to Netezza.
    1. Provide a data source name and description.
    2. Provide the server address and port number of the Netezza server.
    3. Provide the name of the Netezza database to be used by InfoSphere® Data Click.
    4. Provide the database user name and password.
  7. On the ODBC Drive Setup dialog, click OK.

Results

The Netezza data source is now visible in the System DSN and ready for to by used for import by the InfoSphere Metadata Asset Manager. Creating an ODBC data source for the MDM database is not required; the asset manager has a built-in ODBC bridge connector for IBM® DB2® and Oracle databases.

If more changes are necessary, select the data source on the System DSN tab and click Configure. If you make a change, be aware that the database shared in the metadata repository does not see the change. You must update that database by reimporting in the InfoSphere Metadata Asset Manager.
