Connecting an algorithm component

Component connections are used to link two algorithm components to each other. In the editor, algorithm components are always connected from left to right.

About this task

For example, to connect an attribute to a standardization function in the editor, the attribute must be selected as the start of the connection, and the standardization function must be selected as the end of the connection.

The editor also controls what components can be connected to other components, restricting connections between components to the adjacent columns. This verification prevents, for example, a standardization function from being connected to a bucketing function, an attribute from being connected to a comparison role, and so on.

By selecting a component in the editor, you can see the other components to which it is connected, either directly or indirectly. Component inputs and outputs are highlighted.

Algorithms are edited in InfoSphere® MDM Workbench Configuration perspective.

Procedure

  1. Select Expert from the View list.
  2. In the View list, select Algorithms.
  3. In the Palette, click Connection.
  4. Click a component icon from which to start a connection line.
  5. Draw a connection line by dragging the line or clicking another component in the adjacent column to the right. If an attempted connection is not valid, the line cannot be drawn.
  6. Click Select to clear the connection button.
