Watson Search

Watson Search is a free text search capability that scans the content of your InfoSphere® Master Data Management Collaboration Server - Collaborative Edition catalogs according to the search parameters you enter, and then returns detailed search results with descriptions and thumbnails. Watson search is an optional functionality that can be enabled or disabled based on the enable_de_search property in the $TOP/etc/default/common.properties configuration file. Once enabled, the Watson Search text box and the search button are always available to use in the right corner of the row where the menu bar appears.

You must install and configure both IBM® WebSphere® MQ and IBM Data Explorer before Watson Search is available in your InfoSphere Master Data Management Collaboration Server - Collaborative Edition modules. After you complete your installation and configuration, the Watson Search text box is at the right side of the menu bar of each of the modules.

To use Watson Search:

  1. In the Watson Search text box, enter the information that you want to locate.
Use these constructs to create searches:
    Table 1. Watson search options
    Search options Instructions
    Simple search Use this format:
    my_term
where my_term is your search term.
Simple OR search Use this format:
    my_term_1 OR my_term_2
where my_term_1 is your first search term and my_term_2 is your second search term.
Simple AND search Use either of these formats:
    my_term_1 AND my_term_2
    my_term_1 my_term_2
where my_term_1 is your first search term and my_term_2 is your second search term.
Search a specific catalog Use this format:
    catalog:my_catalog my_term
where my_catalog is the catalog that you want to search and my_term is the term that you want to search for.

If the name of your catalog contains a space, such as first catalog, you must bracket the catalog name with apostrophes, as in this example: 'first catalog'.

You can combine any of the search options to create a complex search, as in these examples:
    • catalog:my_catalog my_term_1 my_term_2* 12 true
This example searches in my_catalog for all of these terms: my_term_1, my_term_2*, 12, and true.
    • catalog:my_catalog ite* 410 OR catalog:my_catalog 12
This example searches in my_catalog for all of the items with the strings ite* and 410 or would search my_catalog for items with the string 12.
  2. References for items that match the search are shown in result pane. To review the item details, select one or multiple items and open them in a single or multi-edit screen.
