Operating system-level settings
The ulimit settings must be increased from the typical default operating system values or the BIL jobs will likely not run. Setting adjustments are made at both the kernel level and within the dsenv file.
For both the hard and soft limits for the root user, the recommended setting is for max processes (ulimit –u) is a minimum of 9000. Root’s settings must be increased otherwise changing settings at the individual user level will have no effect. The exact method for setting ulimit values at the kernel level will vary between operating systems. Consult operating system documentation for specifics.
The ulimit –n (number of files/descriptors) setting within dsenv should be set to 9000 or higher (for those systems which allow non-root users to modify ulimit –n).
