Install tools for developing portlets

You must have one of the required application development tools and a test environment that is installed to develop portlets.

The development environment includes:

• Rational® Application Developer version 8.5 or higher. You must import the portal enablement source code into this environment and manually add the portal and WebSphere® Application Servers JAR files into the project build path.
• Portal Toolkit version 8 or higher, and the portal 8.0 or higher test environment. Alternatively you can use the test environments server attach option to connect to an installed WebSphere Portal Server instance. This toolkit can be used to build and debug the portal application.
