Importing Hive metadata

Before you use the Hive connector to read, write, or look up data, you can use InfoSphere® Metadata Asset Manager to import the metadata that represents tables and views in a Hive data source. The imported metadata is then saved in the metadata repository.

  • Configure the Hive server and Hive meta store access to Hive data source.
  • Ensure that you have the privileges to connect and import the metadata from the Hive server and Hive meta store.
By using the Hive connector, you can import metadata about the following types of assets:
  • The host computer that contains the Hive database.
  • The database.
  • Database schemas.
  • Database tables and views. All imported tables are stored in the metadata repository as database tables.
  • Database columns.
Note: When you import the Hive metadata using the InfoSphere Metadata Asset Manager, only the objects of the type Table, Views and Columns are imported. The Hive data source does not provide any information regarding the system objects or any other type of assets even if the option Include system objects is selected in the InfoSphere Metadata Asset Manager.
