Getting started with the Console

The Configuration Console provides a task-oriented interface to help you more easily do some of the most essential tasks to get up and running with Identity Insight.

Data sources contain the identities that you want to process for entity resolution and load into the entity database. Identities are a collection of attributes and characteristics that represent a person, organization, place, or item. IBM Identity Insight uses attributes to look for relationships among identities in a data source. During relationship discovery, the system can generate role alerts using rules that are based on roles associated with identities. A role is an assigned classification of an identity that defines focus or purpose.

The Console helps you:
  • Create, edit, view, and delete data sources.
  • Create, edit, view, and delete attributes and characteristics.
  • Create, edit, and view role alert rules.
  • Perform configuration for system load resolution and degrees of separation.

While Console makes it easier to perform these fundamental tasks, it does not preclude the need to gain an understanding of the data for entities, identities, attributes, and characteristics and how it must be defined as UMF to be useful in an Identity Insight system. A good place to begin is in the "Overview of IBM InfoSphere Identity Insight" section of this product information.
