Viewing replication events
The Events area of the Subscriptions view of the Monitoring perspective lets you view events and messages generated by CDC Replication during replication activities. It allows you to monitor activity and identify problems with the replication activity of your subscriptions.
The top level view provides a summary regarding the number of events, broken down by type. You can drill down in this view to see a list of events by double-clicking on the area title.
Events allow you to perform the following actions:
- View events generated by specific subscriptions or datastores
- Filter events based on severity
- Copy events. You can then paste the event into another application. For example, you may want to copy an event into an email for technical support reasons.
- Export events to a comma-delimited file
- Clear event messages that you no longer need to investigate
- Search for specific events
- From the Events column, view the number of errors associated with your subscription when you first loaded it. The value from this column acts as an indicator for you to address the errors as required. Once you have addressed all the events, you can reset the Events column to repopulate with new statistics.
If the subscription you have selected belongs to a datastore of the CDC Replication Engine for Db2® for i, the Events area will be titled Event Log Summary. In this mode, the Events area will display the events that occurred during the life of the subscription.
If the subscription you have selected belongs to a datastore for other replication engines, that are version 6.5 or later, the Events area will be titled Current Replication Events. In this mode, the Events area will display the events that occurred during the current replication session; that is to say, from when mirroring or refresh was started, until replication is ended. The next time that replication is started, the event count will return to zero and begin again.
There are several categories of events, which are listed by increasing severity:
- Information
- These events provide feedback about CDC Replication operations. These events do not indicate that an error has occurred.
- Diagnostic
- These events contain information that helps you diagnose or solve a problem that may occur as a result of a certain action or operation. This category of events is generated only by CDC Replication Engine for Db2 for i replication engines.
- Notice
- These events describe situations that CDC Replication has detected, which alerts you about a potential error. This category of events is generated only by CDC Replication Engine for Db2 for i replication engines.
- Warning
- These events describe situations that CDC Replication has detected, which alerts you about a potential error.
- Error
- These events describe an error that CDC Replication has detected, or explain conditions that led to CDC Replication shutting down.
- Escape
- These events describe an error that CDC Replication has detected, or explain conditions that led to CDC Replication shutting down. This category of events is generated only by CDC Replication Engine for Db2 for i replication engines.
There are multiple ways to filter the display of events:
- Category
- Clicking either Subscription, Single Scrape or Datastore will filter the display to include only those events that apply to the selected category. The Single Scrape option will only be available when it is an applicable filter.
- Source or Target
- Filter the display to include only the events generated by the source or target datastores.
- Errors
- Filter the display to show only errors by clicking the Errors link.
- Warnings
- Filter the display to show only warnings by clicking the Warnings link.
- All
- Cancels the Errors and Warnings filters. The returns to the default value, which is to display all events that apply to the Category, Source or Target filters if applied.
