Workflow for installing VSAM Remote Source

The components of the VSAM Remote Source solution work together to capture changes to non-relational mainframe data and deliver them to relational databases or other target types that are supported by CDC Replication.

Figure 1 shows the components and the typical installation workflow.

The numbers in Figure 1 correspond to the following installation steps:

  1. Install Podman/Docker and the VSAM Remote Source Docker container on the Linux server.
  2. Install the z/OS components by using automated scripts or manually.
  3. Install the Classic Data Architect, a data virtualization mapping tool that is used to describe non-relational data in relational terms.
  4. Install the Management Console and Access Server components of CDC Replication.
  5. Install the CDC Replication target engine.
