After you install and configure the CDC Replication Engine for PostgreSQL

Once you have installed and configured CDC Replication, you can start using CDC Replication.

Starting the CDC Replication Engine for PostgreSQL (Windows)
When you install CDC Replication on a supported Windows server, you can start it manually after the initial configuration. Starting CDC Replication starts the services in Windows. The services will automatically start after a reboot.
Starting the CDC Replication Engine for PostgreSQL (UNIX and Linux)
When you install CDC Replication on a supported Linux® or UNIX server, you can issue a command to start it. After installing CDC Replication, start it so that you can create a datastore for this instance in Management Console.
Stopping the CDC Replication Engine for PostgreSQL (Windows)
It may be necessary to stop CDC Replication when you want to change the configuration settings, take a server or database offline for maintenance purposes, or if you want to upgrade CDC Replication. You can use the configuration tool or commands to stop CDC Replication.

Maintaining active TCP connections in a network environment
If your deployment of CDC Replication is in a network environment that uses a firewall, VPN gateway, or local system tools to detect idle TCP connections, it may be necessary to configure the product to prevent these connections from being closed during periods of application inactivity between the source and target.
Performing an external refresh
You can perform a refresh of one or more tables in a subscription using a third-party tool, and still integrate this activity into the refresh while active capability of CDC Replication.
Enabling SQL statements in Management Console
CDC Replication lets you execute SQL statements after it applies a table-level clear or refresh operation to a target table. You can specify these SQL statements in the Additional SQL dialog box in Management Console once you have enabled this feature (it is disabled by default).
Replicating data in partitioned tables
The CDC Replication Engine for PostgreSQL supports partitioned tables. If you want to replicate a partitioned table, you can create a standard subscription and replicate the table by mapping sub-partitions of the base table on the source to a partitioned or non-partitioned table on the target.
Creating custom character encodings
CDC Replication supports a wide variety of character encodings (or charsets) provided with Java and ICU (International Components for Unicode). You can add your custom encodings to CDC if it does not support your encodings.
