Releasing IMS RECON data sets for reorganization

When the IMS administrator reorganizes the RECON data sets, run the RELEASE, RECON modify command to use the IMS Remote Source log reader switch to access the active RECON data set.

Your IMS administrator reorganizes your IMS RECON data sets regularly as part of routine maintenance. As part of the process, the administrator needs to release a discarded data set from any IMS jobs that assigned it, including the IMS Remote Source log reader. Following release, the administrator can remove and reallocate the datasets.

Note: If you enable the automatic RECON loss notification in your IMS system, you don't need to follow the procedure that follows.

Procedure

  • Run this IMS command or RML that is provided by your administrator to release the discarded RECON data set:
    /R nn,/RML DBRC='RECON STATUS'
  • Run this command to access the active RECON dataset to get the IMS Remote Source log reader:
    /f IMS-Remote-Source-Name,RELEASE,RECON
  • This console message is generated in the log reader:
CECZ0929I The IMS change-capture interface completed a QUERY RECON command successfully.

The IMS Remote Source log reader JES log also displays the message that the active RECON dataset is allocated.
