Server requirements

Before you can install CDC Replication, you need to ensure that the system you choose meets the necessary operating system, hardware, disk and memory requirements.

Running in a virtualization environment
The CDC Replication components of IBM® Data Replication adhere to the Virtualization Policy for IBM Software and can be run in any virtualization environment for only the supported operating systems and versions that are listed specifically within the IBM Data Replication system requirements.
Understanding the importance of an appropriately configured disk subsystem
There are many types of disk subsystems in use to meet either business or performance needs. Not all of these disk subsystems are suitable for use by databases or CDC Replication out of the box. Some may need to be tuned to ensure that appropriate input/output semantics are in place for reliable continuous operation.
CPU resource requirements
CDC Replication source and target systems both require CPU resources and the availability of CPU directly affects the number of rows processed and the general performance of the product. CPU resources are consumed by different processes on the source and target systems.
RAM requirements
When configuring instances of CDC Replication, the default values are used for memory allocation.
Disk space requirements
Before installing the CDC Replication software, you need to ensure that sufficient disk space is available on your server.
Disk speed requirements
The CDC Replication source deployment must read the database logs from disk. For optimal performance, there must be sufficient disk speed to accommodate the I/O requirements of CDC Replication (reading the logs) and the database (writing the logs).
Disk type requirements
CDC Replication operates most efficiently when installed on a low latency, high performance disk device.
CDC Replication metadata resiliency
CDC Replication metadata contains important information about your current replication configuration. The product metadata is changed every time you make changes to objects such as subscriptions or table mappings in Management Console.
