Remote log reading

You can configure the CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases for environments where a source deployment of the CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases does not have direct access to the Oracle online redo log files and archived log files because the product is installed on a different machine from your source database.

The CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases log reader supports only direct access to the Oracle redo log files with a shared Storage Area Network (SAN) file system or remote access with a shared Network File System (NFS) mount. There is no support for custom options such as manually copying files.

By default, the product is configured to read both online redo log files and archived log files. This provides for low latency replication as the online log is continuously written by Oracle and read by the CDC Replication Engine for Oracle databases log reader. However, the product can also be configured for reading archive log files only.
