Promoting subscription changes

Promotion is the process in Management Console by which you can develop, modify, and move configuration details in subscriptions from your development environment to your test environment then to your production environment.

If your organization has implemented a succession of development stages, then you may want to test your subscriptions before making them available in your production environment. The Promote Subscription wizard promotes the configuration details you set for your table mapping in the Mapping Details area of Management Console to the new environment. When you are finished promoting your changes, the subscription is relocated into the new environment and uses new source and target datastores. The Promote Table Mappings wizard allows you to promote selected table mappings in a subscription rather than all table mappings.

You may have an existing subscription created in Management Console version 6.3 that you need to promote into Management Console version 10.2 and require that the subscription use auto-encoding mode. You must first allow Management Console to create the new subscription using the Promote Subscription wizard and choose the Promote to a new subscription option. After promoting subscription details to the new subscription, you can then convert the subscription to use auto-encoding as available in Management Console version 10.2.
