Configuring a remote target of the CDC Replication Engine for Microsoft SQL Server
You have the option of installing CDC Replication on a system that is remote from the target database.
To allow CDC Replication to communicate with the target database, you must install Microsoft SQL Server connectivity tools on the server where you install CDC Replication.
You might need to install Microsoft Command Line Utilities for SQL Server. The utilities are required for Microsoft Azure SQL Database, for Microsoft Azure SQL Database Managed Instance, and for any Microsoft SQL Server version when the Refresh Loader Path is configured with a local directory. The utilities are not required when the Refresh Loader Path is configured in UNC format for a shared directory. The version of the Microsoft Command Line Utilities for SQL Server is flexible. You can choose the version that matches the version of SQL Server or a newer version up to Microsoft Command Line Utilities 14.x for SQL Server. The Microsoft Command Line Utilities for SQL Server must be installed on the same server as the CDC Replication software.
