Components
Before you start integrating your vehicle data and developing applications, familiarize yourself with the key components of IBM® IoT Connected Vehicle Insights.
The key components are:
See also Key concepts.
Vehicle Data Hub
Vehicles connect to IBM IoT Connected Vehicle Insights through the Vehicle Data Hub (VDH) component. The VDH is a front-end component that collects and manages large volumes of vehicle data from connected vehicles and automotive devices by using a range of protocols and formats. When the VDH receives data from vehicles, the data is normalized, integrated with asset information, and then dispatched to other components, both internal and external. For more information, see Vehicle Data Hub.
Agent system
The Agent system of IBM IoT Connected Vehicle Insightsdetects, stores, and manages events that are related to vehicles, driving activity, and movement. The Agent system is integrated with the mapping system. Events are determined by predefined and customized rules that are created in the system. The Agent system sends and receives data from other components of IBM IoT Connected Vehicle Insights. For more information, see Agent system.
Asset Management
IBM IoT Connected Vehicle Insights provides asset management capabilities for managing vehicles, drivers, and the relationships between them. Assets define the different vehicle data types that are related to vehicle devices that you want to connect to the system. Assets also define the environmental data about drivers, map sources, geographical areas, analytic rules, events, and other things that are meaningful to the connected car ecosystem. The Asset Management component uses IBM Maximo Asset Management to provide a central point and interface for creating and managing assets that are related to connected vehicles. You can use this to extend the default vehicle registrations to include different sensors, mechanical or digital components. For more information, see Registering and managing assets.
Context Mapping
The Context Mapping component provides geospatial functions, including map matching, road geometry data retrieval, shortest path search for global road networks, and real-time traffic event manipulation.
For more information, see Context Mapping.
Driver Behavior
The Driver Behavior component analyzes driving behavior data that is collected by IBM IoT Connected Vehicle Insights from a connected vehicle or automotive device together with geospatial contextual data. By using the API service, you can integrate the analyzed driver data with your automotive applications to gain valuable insights into driving behavior and vehicle usage patterns. The Driver Behavior component also provides a service for analyzing the geographical movement of vehicles and route patterns of journeys. A trajectory pattern of the journey is generated and analyzed to provide insights into vehicle movement.
For more information, see Driver Behavior.
