Personalizing the console home page

You can personalize the web console homepage to monitor your database or data warehouse from there. You use the pre-defined widgets and templates to display only the information of interest to you.

Before you begin

  • The personalized dashboard is only available to users who have the administrator privilege.
  • A customized template cannot be shared with other users.

About this task

Three sample templates are available:
A system template for system administrators
This template is used to monitor the entire system status, such as issues, events and CPU usage.
A database template for database administrators
This template is used to monitor the database status, such as alerts, connections and transaction rate.
A troubleshooter template
This template is used to view useful metrics for monitoring overall system performance.

You can use any of these templates to replace the layout of your default homepage, or use any of the available widgets to further customize the homepage.

Pre-defined widgets include:
Database availability
Indicates whether the database is up or down, and the relevant alerts.
Database responsiveness
Indicates whether the system is responding well to the incoming requests.
Database throughput
Indicates how much work the system is handling.
Database resource usage
Indicates the resource usage of the database in terms of CPU, memory, storage, and log space.
Database time spent
Indicates the percentage of time taken for database calls.
Database contention
Indicates whether there is any contention between connections.
System hardware status
Provides an overview of the system-wide hardware status.
System software status
Provides an overview of the system-wide platform software status.
System resource usage
Indicates the resource usage on the system in terms of physical CPU, memory, disk I/O, and network receive/transmit.
File system disaster recovery
Indicates the connection status between primary and secondary system of the file system based disaster recovery solution, and the time for the last recovery and next scheduled snapshot.
Data replication
A widget for IBM Data Replication for Availability for monitoring asynchronous data replication from a primary database server to one or more target databases servers
Database responsiveness, database contention and database throughput widgets are enhanced with a baseline range that can be used for comparison. Baseline is only available if enough historical data is collected. On top of the home page, you can use the drop-down menu to choose between:
  • Classic baseline, that is, a range of MEAN +/- 1 standard deviation of data samples in the same time period during the last 4 weeks.
  • Smarter baseline, which is generated based on Machine Learning Model trained by historical data from at least 4 weeks behind. When enough data is collected, you can click Train now to train the baseline on the existing data, and start using it. You can also retrain the smarter baseline when more data is collected.

Procedure

  1. From the top-right, click the Personalize icon.
  2. From the Personalize Dashboard panel, click the Widgets tab, then add one or more widgets to the current dashboard by clicking the Apply button.
Tip: You can re-order the display of widgets by dragging-and-dropping, or remove a widget from the dashboard by clicking the X icon on each widget.
  3. Click Save As Template to save your customized dashboard with a name.

Results

The customized dashboard is added to the templates list. The next time you log into the dashboard, the applied template is displayed.
